Muntok, West Bangka, (Antara Babel) - West Bangka district government in Bangka-Belitung (Babel) Province will establish community-based sanitation (Sanimas) at nine villages starting this year, local public works office spokesman Suharli said here on Thursday.

"The establishment of Sanimas will involve underprivileged people in each village so that they can get additional income," Suharli said, adding that the local government has allocated Rp250 million from 2013 regional budget for the implementation of Sanimas in nine villages.

He expressed hope that the Sanimas program will be beneficial for the people of those villages.

"The Sanimas will be implemented in nine villages that we will decide later," Suharli said.

Besides, he added that West Bangka district head will this year dedicate 18 independent villages at six subdistricts.

According to him, the basic concept of sanitation such as  public bathing, washing facilities and latrines was that the villagers could make use of it properly.

"We hope the Sanimas with the self-management program will be of a good success," he said.
