Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (Antara Babel) - The National Regional Handicraft Council (Dekranasda) of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province is promoting the traditional woven fabric named "cual" in international markets.

"We want to introduce this cual woven fabric to the international community to improve the welfare of families of the local craftsmen," Melati Erzaldi Rosman, the chairperson of Dekranasda of Babel, noted here, Friday.

She said the promotion is being conducted through exhibitions at the national and international levels.

"In the near future, we will participate in exhibitions in China and Japan to promote the cual fabric and other traditional handicrafts," she noted, adding that the council also conducts social media networking and online marketing through Dekranasda's website.

Cual fabrics have several patterns, such as the elephant flower, Chinese flowers, dragon fights, and the Hong bird. Some of the cual fabric patterns are made using silk threads, while others are made with 18-karat gold threads.
