Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung, March 21 (Antara) - Bangka Belitung (Babel) Governor Erzaldi Rosman Djohan confirmed that the province will host a meeting themed "Asia Tin Week" of 300 tin producers worldwide in 2019 to discuss various issues on tin ore mining.

"We would like to thank the International Tin Association (ITA) for selecting Bangka Belitung to host the global tin producers` meeting next year," Djohan remarked here on Wednesday.

Djohan explained that ITA had selected Babel as the host since it is the largest tin ore producing area in the world.

"We are ready to make the meeting a success in the hope that the event would run smoothly and yield good agreements for the development and welfare of the community," he remarked.

Managing Director of the International Tin Association (ITA) David Bishop remarked that discussions covering several areas will be held during the Asia Tin Week 2019 since each party could contribute.

According to Bishop, some points of concern known as the ten principle tin code, to be raised at a meeting, included the application of law and good management practices, environment, health, and safety.

Other points comprise labor, stakeholder engagement, local communities, conflicts and human rights violations, which affect inventory, product accountability, and reporting.

"Some 300 participants from tin-producing countries across the world and incorporated in the ITA will attend the meeting," he remarked.

Governor Djohan stated that the participants will also discuss issues on child labor, health and safety, abandoned mining areas, and mining reclamation.
