Jakarta (Antara Babel) - The Indonesian Advocates Association (Peradi) has opined that the Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) of the National Police (Polri) acted arbitrarily in handling the case of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deputy Chairman Bambang Widjojanto.

"We have sent a letter twice to the Police chief to declare that BW (Bambang Widjojanto) is not guilty because as per his profession as an advocate, he has done it the right way, in an appropriate and accountable manner, both morally and legally," Peradi spokesman Hendrik Jehaman affirmed here on Friday.

However, he stated that the Police did not give any official response to the first letter from Peradi, and the second one sent on March 10, 2015, regarding the alleged criminalization in the case of BW.

"They (the police) only said in a press conference that they will pay attention to our letter, but until this day, they have not permitted us to come and explain the matter institutionally to them," Hendrik noted.

Therefore, he opined that the Police have acted arbitrarily by not being heedful to the letter from Peradi.

"We criticize what was done by the Police because it is a crime against the advocate profession," he affirmed, adding that there was an irregularity during the handling of the BW case related to the MoU inked between the National Police and Peradi in an alleged violation of the code of conduct.
