Pangkalpinang, Babel (Antaranews Babel) - The representative office of Bank Indonesia in Bangka Belitung (Babel) said the province recorded the highest economic growth of 7.09 percent in the third quarter of this year among the provinces in Sumatra.
Sumatra`s economic growth averaged only 4.72 percent and the country 5.27 percent in the July-September period of this year.
"Babel`s economic growth in the third quarter of this year was stronger than in the previous quarter on an increase in household consumption, exports and a decline in imports," head of the representative office of the Central Bank Tantan Heroika said here on Thursday.
Tantan said household consumption in the third quarter of 2018 grew 5.91 percent year-on-year or relatively stable from the previous quarter. Meanwhile the growth of consumption of household non profit agencies (LNPRT) increased from 10.26 percent in the second quarter this year to 11.22 percent.
"LNPRT rose on national and international events and the start of political campaign ahead of the legislative and presidential elections in 2019," he said.
He said the government consumption grew 9.19 percent, stronger than the growth of 8.9 percent in the previous quarter.
"In production, growth was recorded in agricultural, forestry and fishery sector, manufacturing sector, trade and mining sector," he said.
He said the manufacturing sector contributed the largest to the economic growth of the province in the third quarter of this year.
"Meanwhile, tin price has not recovered yet but demand is still strong boosting domestic production," he said.
Bangka Belitung is the country`s largest producer of tin ore. Indonesia is one of the world`s largest producer of tin.
