Jakarta (Antara Babel) - President Joko Widodo has highlighted the need to accelerate the revision of Law No. 15 of 2003 on Combating Criminal Acts of Terrorism in a bid to offer greater powers to law enforcers.
"We want the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) to speed up the revision of the anti-terrorism law in order to facilitate the law enforcement officials to have a strong foundation," President Jokowi remarked during a visit to the site of two bomb explosions in Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, on Thursday evening after visiting the wounded victims at the Kramat Jati Hospital.
On the occasion, he said the government must immediately complete the revision of Law Number 15 of 2003 on terrorism to strengthen the role of law enforcers.
"As this is an urgent matter, I have just now ordered the coordinating minister for political, security, and legal affairs to immediately complete the revision of the anti-terrorism law, so that law enforcers would have a stronger foundation to act, especially by taking preventive measures," he stated.
He noted that terrorism is a global issue that has also received significant attention in other countries.
The law in other countries allows law enforcers to take preventive actions.
"Hence, we expect that the government and DPR would immediately complete the revision of the anti-terrorism law to enable law enforcers to have a stronger foundation to act and take preventive actions before a terror incident occurs," the president remarked.
