Pangkalpinang (Antara Babel) - Pangkalpinang city mayor Muhammad Irwansyah fulfills his pledge to give all his monthly salary for social purposes.
"It is in line with his promise during his pre election campaign to contribute his monthly salary to orphanage," deputy mayor of the city Muhammad Sopian said.
Muhammad Irwansyah has never taken his salary home, Sopian said, here on Tuesday, adding the Rp5.5 million salary is used to buy rice to be distributed among poor families, he said.
"The mayor was a businessman. His income from his companies is more than enough to cover his family's requirement," Sopian said.
The mayor even has used his own money to cover the cost of commemorating the Pangkalpinang anniversary.
The mayor paid for the cost of bringing in a number of artists from Jakarta to highlight the commemoration using his own money, Sopian added.
"It was a reflection of his lover for the people of Pangkalpinang," he said.
