Jakarta (Antara Babel) - The Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), the winner of the recent legislative elections, continued to conduct political lobbying in a bid to win the election of parliamentary leadership.

"We keep lobbying with other political parties to push for the implementation of a proportional system in the election of DPR leadership," PDIP secretary general Tjahjo Kumolo stated here on Wednesday.

Due to the passage of the law on the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), the House of Representatives (DPR), the Regional Legislative Assemblies (DPRD), and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) or the law on MD3, the PDIP, as the winner of the legislative elections on April 9, would not automatically be eligible to have its candidate hold the post of speaker in the House of Representatives (DPR).

Tjahjo remarked that a team from the PDIP has also met President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the general chairman of the Democrat Party, and the leadership of the United Development Party (PPP).

A team from the National Democrat Party (Nasdem), which is a member of the PDIP coalition, has also met the leadership of the National Mandate Party (PAN).

"We are trying to convince other parties to be able to implement a proportional system for the election of parliamentary leadership. We hope the lobbying will yield a positive result," he emphasized.

Tjahjo noted that the election of DPR leadership would be held this evening or Thursday based on the outcome of the consultation meeting in the afternoon following the inauguration of the new members of MPR, DPR, and DPD on Wednesday.

"We hope the election will be carried out tomorrow, so that the members have time to regain their stamina," he affirmed.

Regarding his party's chances of garnering the support of other parties to back its idea, Tjahjo expressed belief that it was already present, while referring to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's plan to issue a Perppu (government regulation in lieu of the law) to cancel the passage of the bill on indirect system of regional elections.

"The PDIP believes that the Democrat Party shares the same viewpoint," he added.

Based on a proportional system of election, the PDIP plans to nominate Puan Maharani as the party's candidate for the post of DPR speaker.
