Jakarta (Antaranews Babel) - Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands Erzaldi Rosman Djohan signed a joint agreement with PT. Indonesia Research Institute of Japan-Jakarta to accelerate the province`s economy and overall development.
"This cooperation aims to promote tourism in order to attract Japanese tourists to visit Bangka Belitung Islands and encourage them to invest and also to offer assistance in the form of grants, Corporate Social Responsibility, and other Japanese programs," Djohan noted here on Thursday.
He explained that the Bangka Belitung Islands held huge potential in five sectors: tourism, mining, fisheries, plantation and agriculture, and processing industry.
Bangka Belitung Islands has several tourism destinations that need to be developed for agrotourism, mangrove forests, and beach tourism.
The mining sector holds promising prospects owing to the deposits of bauxite, kaolin, granite, quartz sand, granite, and clay, among others. In the fishery sector, the province holds potential, including in seaweed and shrimp farming.
In terms of plantation and agriculture, the most prominent commodities of the province are white pepper, rubber, palm oil, and cocoa.
The industrial and trading sectors include the seaweed processing industry, fish preservation, flour production, and palm oil processing.
"Continuous efforts need to be made to bring about improvements in several sectors. The provincial government has an important role related to building and developing the economy," he noted.
He remarked that strategic steps should be taken to improve the welfare of the community in Bangka Belitung.
"Of course, we hope through this cooperation, investment would flow into Bangka Belitung that will later impact economic development," he added.
