Indonesia will call for out-of-the-box actions for maintaining regional stability at the 44th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly, Vice Chairperson of the House Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSAP) Putu Supadma Rudana said.

"The parliament must be responsive in inspiring the government to carry out out-of-the-box movements," Rudana added in a statement received here on Friday.

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) will host the 44th AIPA General Assembly in Jakarta from August 5–11, 2023, with the theme "Responsive Parliaments for a Stable and Prosperous ASEAN."

Indonesia, he said, is expected to become a "big brother" in efforts to maintain stability in the region.

"Many big powers want to come in, but if ASEAN is solid and strong, the region will be stable," he added.

Rudana also expressed the hope that the 44th AIPA General Assembly will run smoothly and produce policy concepts that will benefit all people in the ASEAN region.

"This is Indonesia's momentum to show itself as a chairman. We must ensure that the implementation of this AIPA General Assembly is the best," he added.

He said his party held a special meeting with all leaders and members of BKSAP, as well as coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"There are important issues highlighted by the Foreign Ministry, and we hope that the issues discussed by the ASEAN side and by the observers are to fight for Indonesia's national interests," he added.

Rudana informed that the 44th AIPA General Assembly will not only talk about economic growth, but also about the green economy.

"The people must be involved, both women and young people throughout the ASEAN region. They should benefit from economic improvement," he said.
