Jakarta (Antaranews Babel) - Indonesian men's pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo retained their title of the prestigious All England badminton tournament this year after outclassing Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen of Denmark.
The Indonesian men's pair beat the Danish duo in two straight sets 21-8, 21-77, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) revealed in its official website on Monday.
In the first set, the Indonesian pair led the score in 15-11, but Boe/Morgensen managed to catch up in 15-15.
During the final serve, the Danish men's pair failed to add the score, and as a result, Markus and Kevin reclaimed the first set of the match.
In the second game, Boe and Mogensen fought back, and sought to outclass Markus and Kevin in 17-17. However, the Indonesian men's pair successfully led back and won the second match.
"All England is the world's most prestigious and old badminton tournament, so this victory is special for us. We are pleased to play here, and get many supports," Kevin said after the match.
After retaining the men's pair All England title for two times in a row, Marcus and Kevin have followed their senior Ricky Subagja and Rexy Mainaky who grabbed the similar wins in 1995 and 1996.
Another pair who retained the All England titles for two times in a row was Kim Mon-soo and Park Joo-bong of South Korea in 1985 and 1986.
