Banjar Baru (Antaranews Babel) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) witnessed the distribution of social allowances, such as Smart Indonesian Cards (KIP) for education and Healthy Indonesian Card (KIS) for health care, here in South Kalimantan on Monday.
KIP and KIS were distributed in the best interest of the families and for their children's education, the head of state noted in his remarks.
"The funds in KIP should be used for fulfilling the educational and school needs," President Jokowi noted.
The government distributed KIP to 1,245 people, out of the total 8,564 inhabitants of Banjar Baru.
The KIP recipients comprised 500 elementary school students, 273 junior high school students, 175 senior high school students, 175 vocational school students, and 122 equivalent education program students.
The government also distributed Hopeful Family Program cards to 115,010 families in South Kalimantan, including 5,946 families in Banjar Baru.
Some 500 teachers of South Kalimantan received certificates on the occasion.
Jokowi was accompanied by Social Affairs Minister Idrus Marham, Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, Chief of the Presidential Staff Moeldoko, and Governor of South Kalimantan Sahbirin Noor.
On Sunday, President Jokowi attended the 13th anniversary of the demise of prominent ulema KH Zaini Abdul Ghani, or Abah Guru Sekumpul, in Martapura Sub-district, Banjar District, South Kalimantan Province.
