Jakarta (Antara Babel) - A Golkar Party associate chairman, Mahyudin, said current general chairman Aburizal Bakrie (ARB) is ready to run for party leadership for the second term if regional boards request him to.

"Actually Aburizal Bakrie has no ambition to seek renomination but if he is asked to by regional boards in the 9th national congress in January 2015 he has said he is ready to," he said here on Sunday.

Mahyudin said regional boards had considered Aburizal Bakrie as a party unifier and the right person to lead the Red-White coalition.

"It has been proven that Aburizal Bakrei is able to lead the Red-White coalition well. We do not know if others could do it," he said.

The Red-White coalition consists of parties that supported Prabowo Subianto in the presidential election on July 9, which was finally won by Joko Widodo, the current president.

The coalition however is now dominating the parliament and has taken the whole leadership of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the People's Consultative Assembly.

Due to its domination the Great Indonesia coalition of parties led by the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP) that supports President Joko Widodo has launched a protest by setting up its own DPR leadership.

Mahyudin who is also deputy chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly said if support from regional boards is solid it is assured Aburizal Bakrie will seek reelection but if it is not he certainly would give a second thought.

Regarding the accusations that Aburizal Bakrie's leadership has failed Mahyudin denied them, saying that the vote collection of Golkar Party rose by more than two millions in the legislative elections on April 9.

Golkar Party finished second in the elections defeated by PDIP led by former president Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"Indeed it is not spectacular but it is also not bad," he said.

On rumors about the use of an acclamation system in the election of party's leadership later Mahyudin said that it would all be determined by party rules and dynamics.

"If all regional boards agree to choose Aburizal Bakrie through an acclamation system it would also be legitimate," he said.

Mahyudin admitted that he is one of the supporters of Aburizal's reelection as Golkar Party's leader but due to his duties as an MPR deputy chairman he would not lead the success team, adding the team would likely be held by Nurdin Halid, a party figure.
