Pangkalpinang, Bangka-Belitun (Antara Babel) - The general chairman of Nasional Demokrat Party (Nasdem), Surya Paloh, said he would entrust the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) with resolving the Jakarta Bay reclamation issue.
He made the remarks while speaking to newsmen after inaugurating members of the regional board of the Bangka-Belitung party chapter here on Saturday.
The reclamation issue came up following the KPK's recent move to arrest M Sanusi, a Jakarta legislative assembly member from Gerindra Party.
On April 1, KPK announced it had named Mohamad Sanusi, chairman of the Gerindra Party faction in the Jakarta Legislative Assembly (DPRD), as a suspect since he allegedly received a bribe in connection with the drafting of bylaws related to the reclamation project.
The KPK has also named President Director of PT Agung Podomoro (one of the project developers), Ariesman Widjaja, who allegedly paid Rp2 billion in bribes to Mohamad Sanusi, in connection with deliberation of draft bylaws about a zoning plan for Jakarta's coastal area and small isles from 2015 to 2035, and also about a spatial plan for the strategic North Jakarta coastal area.
Surya Paloh said his party's support to Basuki Tjahaja Purnama would continue. He said his party continued to give full support to Ahok, the nickname by which the governor is also popularly referred to, to run for governor in the 2017 election also, adding he believed Ahok was not involved in the case.
"I am convinced of it. Ahok is still the best for the office as of now," he said.
Basuki has so far decided to run through non-political party nomination but some parties have expressed their support for him, including Nasdem.
In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, Surya Paloh encouraged young leaders to lead.
He hoped that young men would have the courage to take responsibility to become leaders who can turn Indonesia into an advanced nation, one that can compete with other nations in the world.
