West Bangka (Antara Babel) - The West Bangka police of Bangka Belitung, have foiled an attempt to smuggle out 6.28 tons of tin ores from the sub-district of Simpang Teritip.
A team of police force headed by Adj. Comr Sahbaini caught the ship KM Senag Hati on Sunday, West Bangka police chief Adj Sr Comr.Djoko Purnomo said in Muntok on Monday.
The police on a routine patrol in the sea came across the suspicious vessel off the Menduyung and ordered it to stop, Djoko said.
He said the police also arrested two suspects identified as Jum and EF of Pulo Mas, Dabo Singkep, Riau Islands.
The tin ores, believed to be produced from illegal tin mines in forest areas, were packed in 157 small bags each weighing 40 kg, he said.
Currently the suspects and the tin ores are held at the West Bangka police headquarters for investigations. The vessel, the KM Senang Hati is also detained at the Muntok.
