Koba, Bangka Belitung  (Antara News Babel) - An investor from South Korea has expressed interest in building a steam powered electric plant (PLTU) in the Bangka Belitung province.

The plan is to build the power plant in the sub-district of Lubuk Besar, in the regency of Central Bangka, Regent Ibnu Saleh said here on Thursday.

"Construction of the PLTU has been in our program. Now a South Korean company - I don`t remember the name - has been in the process of licensing," the regent said.

He said the district administration wants the project to be implemented as soon as possible as it would be needed to speed up the district development program.

"Around 1,000 hectares of land would be provided for the project or much wider than 300 hectares originally planned as it would become an integrated industrial, tourism and trading area," he said.

The regent, however, could not yet give a date when the construction of project is to start. The PLTU, which has been planned since 2016 will have a capacity of 400 megawatts.

"We could not yet say when construction would start, but one thing certain is that the project would be carried out as it is important for the district," he said.
