Jakarta (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR) will send a letter to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for approval of Indonesia Armed Forces (TNI) Lieutenant General (ret.) Muhammad Herindra as candidate for Indonesian State Intelligence Agency (BIN) head.
The approval was taken at the 4th Plenary Meeting of DPR for the 2024-2025 Session Year, with the agenda of acceding to the consideration of dismissal and appointment of candidates for BIN head at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
"After being approved by the plenary meeting, the mechanism process is that we will then send a letter to the president regarding this approval," DPR Speaker Puan Maharani stated during a press conference after the plenary meeting.
She also handed over the determination of the schedule for Herindra's inauguration as BIN head to the government.
Maharani also remarked that the government will decide the inauguration date for Herindra as BIN head.
"Regarding the inauguration, we will leave it to the government," she remarked.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday (Oct 16), Deputy Speaker of DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the plan was for Herindra to be inaugurated as BIN head along with the inauguration of the upcoming government cabinet ministers on October 21.
"If it is rushed, maybe the inauguration will be held together with the cabinet ministers on October 21," Ahmad remarked at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta.
Currently, Herindra serves as deputy minister of defense of Indonesia.
President Joko Widodo proposed his name as a candidate for BIN head to replace General of Police (Ret.) Budi Gunawan through a Presidential Letter number R-51/Pres/10/2024, dated October 10, 2024.
