Madiun, East Java (ANTARA Babel) - State-owned train maker PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) said it has produced trains with carriages made of bullet proof steel.
PT INKA has already produced six units of bullet proof carriages, Bambang Soenjaswono, the administration and finance director of the train maker said.
The bullet proof train is produced on order from the communication ministry to be used for important guests, Bambang said here on Wednesday.
The glass windows, however, are not bullet proof, he said, adding in the future INKA plans to use bullet proof glass for the windows, he said.
He said PT INKA could produce any type of trains already in operation in the country, but the production capacity is still below requirement.
PT INKA, which started operation in 1981, is the only integrated train producer in ASEAN.
With employees of 859 people , PT INKA could produce 240 units of carriages of electric passenger train, 237 units of diesel train carriages and 78 units of locomotives a year.
