Belitung, Babel (Antara Babel) - A flash flood that hit Belitung Island in Bangka-Belitung (Babel) Province on Sunday morning, inundated numerous villages in the districts of Belitung and East Belitung.
Local disaster mitigation spokesman Abdul Sani remarked that late until Sunday night hundreds of houses in the two districts were still under the floodwaters.
Abdul said the flash flood, triggered by incessant heavy rain since Saturday until early Sunday morning, submerged the houses and snapped several roads.
"Until now we have been on the ground doing evacuations and distributing emergency aid, as well as collecting data on the houses that are affected by floods," he said.
According to him, the massive flash flood that hit East Belitung District (known as the district of Rainbow Warrior) on Sunday completely snapped the road access to the district.
"Access to the district of Rainbow Warrior, and the power grid are completely cut off," he said.
