Medan, N Sumatra (Antara Babel) - Presidential Candidate Prabowo Subianto has committed to accepting foreign investors who want to do business in Indonesia, a leader of the party said.
"The entry into Indonesia of foreign investors will boost the country's economy and state income," Irsal Fikri, secretary of the United Development Party (PPP) for Medan branch, said here on Saturday.
The United Development Party is one of the political parties that supports the Prabowo Subianto - Hatta Rajasa presidential and vice presidential candidate pair in the upcoming July 9 2014 presidential race.
Irsal added that the presence of foreign investors to open plantations and mining businesses would improve job opportunities for Indonesians.
"The Prabowo-Hatta ticket will welcome foreign businessmen who want to make investments in Indonesia. This should be supported and should not be ignored," he added.
He noted that the increasing number of foreign investors who want to do business in Indonesia indicated that they had significant trust in Indonesia and saw the country as a safe nation to invest in.
"We should maintain this condition to prevent the emergence of distrust among foreign investors," stated Irsal, who is also a member of Medan's Regional Legislative Assembly (DPRD).
He added that those who claim that Prabowo dislikes foreign investors were incorrect.
"The presence of foreign investors in Indonesia will strengthen economic cooperation with countries where foreign investors come from," he remarked.
He said if Prabowo and Hatta were elected president and vice president, foreign investors doing business in Indonesia would be guaranteed a safe environment and receive protection, as well.
There are now two presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs, Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla and Prabowo-Hatta Rajasa, who oppose each other in the July 9 presidential election.
The Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla duo is supported by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the National Democrat Party (NasDem), the National Awakening Party (PKB), and the People's Conscience Party (Hanura), with 207 seats or 36.96 percent of the House of Representatives (DPR)'s 560 seats.
The Prabowo-Hatta duo is supported by the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra), the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party, the Prosperous Justice Party, the United Development Party (PPP), and the Crescent and Star Party (PBB) with 292 seats, or 52.14 percent in parliament.
