The government of Central Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, will immediately take over control of PT Koba Tin's tin ore mining located in the Marbuk and Kenari areas.
"We have coordinated with the provincial government, and have even conducted a review for the follow-up," Central Bangka Regent Algafry Rahman said in Koba, Monday.
The Regent said this was in response to the results of a field visit with Babel Governor Ridwan Jamaluddin regarding the plan to take over control of ex-mining land owned by PT Koba Tin in the Marbuk and Kinari areas in Koba District, whose contract of work had ended since 2013.
"We are planning to take it over, but we will evaluate it first to see the existence of the pit area (a former tin ore mining pit), the extent of the economic impact, and later we will see how it develops," he said.
But what is certain, he said, is that currently the local government has drawn up a draft regent regulation (perbub) as a legal umbrella and is finalizing the spatial planning in the two areas.
The Central Bangka Regency Government has long been trying to control the Marbuk and Kinari areas, which are PT Koba Tin's large-scale tin ore mining areas.
"Indeed, we are working with the provincial government to take over and re-exploit in collaboration with a third party, PT Timah Tbk," he said.
Since PT Koba Tin's contract of work was not renewed in 2013, the Marbuk and Kinari areas have always been a problem because they were illegally mined by the community.
This condition has been going on since 2014 until now so there are fears it will have a social impact if it is not managed properly and legally, he explained.
"We want the area to be explored legally and mining management is more secure and environmentally friendly," he said.
