"We see the fishery potential in South Bangka. The prospects are good, therefore we want to build a cold storage to keep fresh fishes caught by local fishermen," company director Kawi Ali said here on Tuesday.
Local fishermen no longer have to go to Jakarta to sell their fishes, Kawi said, adding they could sell their fishes to CBL in Sadai.
"We could keep the fishes in the cold storage to keep them fresh before gokng to the market," he said.
He said the cold storage is big enough for fishes not only from the regency of South Bangka but also from other neighboring districts.
He said fishes and shrimps from Bangka and Belitung have good quality for exports .
"We will exports fishes and shrimps to Singapore. We already have ships to facilitate exports," he said.
He said he had talked with the regent, who pledged to facilitate in providing the licenses and location for the cold storage.
The operation of the cold storage would contribute to improving the welfare of local fishermen, he said.
He said his company also plans to build an ice making factory and open a pineapple plantations .
Pineapple is a potential local commodity, he said.
"The plantation and the factory will open more jobs needed by the local people," he said.
