Pangkalpinang, Babel (Antara Babel) - The province of Bangka Belitung (Babel) reported a sharp decline in exports in October this year on shrinking exports of its main commodity tin.

The province earned only US$123.64 million in exports in October or down 25.84 percent from US$166.74 million in the previous month.

"The decline followed a 31.01 percent fall in tin exports  in October. An increase of 28.92 percent in the exports of other commodities  was not enough to make up from the fall in tin exports," head of the provincial office of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Darwis Sitorus said here on Sunday.

Indonesia ranks among the world's largest producer of tin and Bangka Belitung is the largest tin producing province in the country.

Darwis said the province's  tin exports in October, 2016 were valued at US$105.13  million  and its exports of other commodities were worth only US$18.52 million.

The main countries of destinations for tin exports in October  were Singapore to which exports were valued at US$34.38 million, the Netherlands valued at US$18.30  million, Japan valued at US$12.63 million,  India US$11.42 million  and Taiwan US$6.90 million .

Other main export commodities of the province included rubber  and rubber products , fish  and shrimps, animal and vegetable oils and fats  and chemicals.  
     
The exports of the non tin commodities rose with the exception of coffee, tea and spice exports, which dropped 29.61 percent.

Non tin commodities were exported mainly China, dominated by crude palm oil, Singapore, the Netherlands, Japan,  and Malaysia.
