Jakarta (Antaranews Babel) - Chairman of the Kazakhstan Parliamentary Senate Kassym-Jomart Tokayev invited Vice President Jusuf Kalla to attend a worldwide interfaith meeting to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, in October 2018.
"The meeting is not only being held as a reciprocal gesture but also to attend the world interfaith meeting in Kazakhstan, and we laud the effort due to the importance of (maintaining) peace," he noted while accompanying Tokayev after they held a meeting at the Vice President's Office here on Wednesday.
Vice President Kalla said Indonesia, as the world's most populous Muslim country, had played an active role in the peace process.
On the occasion, Tokayev noted that Kalla is a friend of Kazakhstan and has contributed positively to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting held in Astana, Kazakhstan, in September last year.
Tokayev, who held a 15-minute discussion with the vice president, stated that the purpose of visiting Vice President Kalla was to deliver an invitation to a conference of interfaith leaders and politicians worldwide to be held in Astana in October.
The global meeting will be attended by not only religious figures worldwide but also politicians.
Tokayev noted that Indonesia, as the largest Muslim country in the world, played an important role in the meeting.
"We believe Indonesia, as the largest Muslim country in the world, will contribute significantly to this event. This is a global event highlighted by the global media, and the world's religious leaders and politicians are expected to attend the event. We believe Indonesia can represent the Islamic world at this event and speak on behalf of Muslims," he emphasized.
