Jakarta (Antara Babel) - President-elect Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, must fulfill his promise to the people that only competent persons will be appointed as ministers, political observer J Kristiadi noted.
"Therefore, Jokowi must appoint ministers who have the ability to work as "fighters" in responding to pressure and situation around them," Kristiadi of the Center for Strategic and International Studies said here on Wednesday.
He emphasized that Jokowi had set an example as a fighter, as he had learnt fast and proved in Jakarta (as the Jakarta governor).
Kristiadi reminded that in forming the cabinet Jokowi should keep his promise that he will appoint competent ministers who had high integrity.
The political observer cited as an example the president director of state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia, Ignasius Jonan. Jonan, he said, has the character as a "fighter."
"In essence, a minister should not only have the ability to conduct visits to various least developed areas but also have the courage to formulate and implement a policy. Jonan is a fast learning personality and is also a true fighter," he explained.
President-elect Jokowi is currently studying the formation of cabinet ministers through discussions and formulation of cabinet programs by his transition team.
Jokowi said he was considering induction of regional heads with good achievements in his cabinet in order to run the government.
"It is possible that regional heads will find a place in the cabinet of the Jokowi-JK duo, why not? Everything is possible," Jokowi stated on Monday night.
According to him, the cabinet structure has not yet been determined because of detailed ongoing discussions taking every aspect into consideration.
"Cabinet preparation and determination has not been finalized because still proper discussions are underway," he affirmed.
A political observer from the University of Pelita Harapan Emrus Sihombing had earlier remarked that regional heads with proven track records and outstanding integrity should be part of the cabinet.
Some of the figures who are eligible are mayor of Surabaya, Tri Rismaharini; mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya; mayor of Bandung, Ridwan Kamil; and regent of Kudus, Musthofa.
"Governors, regents, and mayors joining the cabinet is not an issue. The most important aspect, however, is that the regional heads should have good character and capability," Emrus emphasized.
"The requirements of regional heads to become ministers include extraordinary integrity, solid morality, proven track record, and courage to take decisions for the sake of improvement," he pointed out.
Other criteria are willingness to report about corrupt subordinates to law enforcement agencies and the president and having capabilities in accordance with the ministry.
"Regional heads must be honest and sincere and must not compromise with any political force in running the ministry. So, they will not have any political obligations to the previous government," he added.
