Jakarta (Antara Babel) - The Indonesian government authorities have foiled nine attempts to launch terror attacks in 2016-2017, the National Agency for the Prevention, and Control of Terrorism (BNPT) has said.
"This a fact and it is recognized and appreciated by the world," head of BNPT police Brig.Gen. Hamidin said in Bandung, on Monday night.
The latest incident was the killing of six terrorist suspects of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD)group in Tuban, East Java on Saturday last week after the arrest on Friday of three other terrorist suspects in Lamongan in the province.
In the same week , there was an attack on he Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt and the attack with truck in Stockholm, Sweden.
"This showed quantitatively and qualitatively preventative actions against terrorism in Indonesia is effective.
"When I spoke at a conference on prevention of terrorism in India recently, none of the countries (taking part in the conference) that did not express appreciation for Indonesia's success in foiling a number of attempts of terror attacks," Hamidin said.
Referring to training of peace envoys for cyber world, Hamidin said groups of radical terrorists also utilized the advanced communications technology to spread propaganda and to recruit new members through cyber world.
Therefore, BNPT deems it necessary to launch preventive and counter radicalization measures in the cyber world involving various circles, he said, adding , propaganda in the cyber world could distort facts and change the public views of a reality.
He said the information about the arrest of terrorist suspects in Lamongan and the elimination of six other suspects in Tuban after five hour siege by the anti terror squad could different if the fact was twisted in the cyber world.
Twisted reports in cyber world about the series of incidents could lead to accusation of gross violation of human right by police, he said.
The contact between the anti terror squad and the terrorist suspects in Tuban began when the terrorist suspects shot a traffic police, who tried to stop their car in the Tuban-Semarang highway in the village of Beji, following the arrest of other suspects in Lamongan the day before.
Head of the Supervision and Counter Propaganda Division of BNPT Col. Sujatmiko said the training of Cyber World Peace Envoys 2017 in Bandung is participated in by 60 persons including 20 programmers, 20 bloggers, 20 visual communications designers.
"Through this Cyber World Peace Envoys, we hope to be able to enter the cyber world with peace content," Sujatmiko said.
