Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (Antara Babel) - The Indonesian seaport management company, PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) II of Pangkalbalam Branch, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, will extend a multipurpose dock to a length of 80 meters.
"Currently, the dock has a length of 446 meters, and the expansion will be 80 meters long," the General Manager of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II of Pangkalbalam Branch, Ambar Wiyadi, said here on Tuesday.
He added that the existing dock capacity is currently not maximum.
"The dock is expected to increase the number of ship docking at Pangkalbalam Port and improve the economy," he stated.
Pangkalbalam Port has an important role in the local economy because it is the main entrance of 80 percent logistics in Bangka Island.
"We are managing the dock`s side. Hopefully, this extension project will increase the capacity of Pangkalbalam Port," he noted.
Pelindo II is seeking to improve its service to up to seven ships per day at Pangkalbalam Port.
"We have a problem with tidal seawater, which is only seven hours," Ambar revealed.
